The Boulder River is a 60-mile long tributary of the Yellowstone River near Big Timber, Montana. It flows north through the Absaroka--Beartooth Wilderness, originating from the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park. The Boulder River is known for its scenery, whitewater sections, and excellent fly fishing opportunities.
The best time to fish the Boulder River in Montana is generally mid-July through August. This period offers ideal conditions with lower, clearer flows, making it suitable for both wading and floating.
